Light and Place

Sometimes my photographs begin with a person. Others begin with a place.

This collection is geographically disparate yet many share a common thread: early mornings, late evenings and the fleeting moments when light transforms the ordinary into something memorable.

Whether it is a fishing boat at dawn, a city street before breakfast or a mountain catching the first rays of the day, these photographs are less about geography than atmosphere.

This is a shot of the Volcan del Fuego in Guatemala erupting in the fading light of day - perhaps the most NatGeo of my collection.

Most didn’t need an expensive camera, just great light, patience and an alarm clock set far too early.
