Sunrise at the Mayan ruins at Tikal, Guatemala
Portfolio
It would have been easier to organise this portfolio by country. Instead, I have grouped the photographs around the themes that seem to have followed me wherever I travelled: work, faith, play, light and belonging.
The more I travelled, the less interested I became in landmarks alone and the more drawn I was to everyday life. The people, rituals and fleeting moments that often reveal more about a place than any guidebook ever could.
Of course, life rarely fits neatly into categories. Many of these photographs could sit comfortably in several galleries at once. A musician may be working, but also performing. A fisherman may be at leisure, but also part of a portrait. A family gathering may be as much about faith as belonging. The themes are not boxes so much as different ways of looking at the same world.
Taken over more than thirty years and across several continents, these images reflect a continuing curiosity about how people live, work, believe and belong.
